The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has announced that bond notes will start circulating on Monday the 28th of November through a press statement today.
This is in contradiction to Minister of Finance, Patrick Chinamasa’s statement earlier that the bond notes would start circulating on the 30th of November.
Some Zimbabweans have expressed serious reservations with government’s decision to introduce the bond notes but government has insisted they will forge ahead with their plan. Civil society groups have carried out street demonstrations against bond notes while some individuals have taken government to court.
The bond notes will start circulating without citizens knowing how the notes look like heightening fears that fake bond notes may circulate especially in rural areas where people have no access to information.
Government normally carries our educational promotions to make members familiarise themselves with new notes before they start circulating but this has not been the case with bond notes.
